The famously effective smart locks from Yves Behar that pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth in order to keep you from losing your keys now work with Apple Watch as well.

Pushing the future closer to us, the August smart locks don't require you to look for things inside your pockets anymore in order to unlock them, not even for smartphones. Now, you can just swipe and tap on your Apple Watch to open your August lock. The wearable also records those who access the smart lock and you even get notified when somebody locks or unlocks your door.

The August lock has been around for about a year and is widely considered one of the most successful home automation devices that enable you to effectively control your house at the push of a button. It originally comes with an app for Android and iOS which pairs your lock with your phone via Bluetooth. There is no need for internet connection between your smartphone and the lock device.

A smart design turned even smarter

The smart lock designed by Behar sends all the necessary information through your tablet or phone relying on algorithmically generated keys, like secure ID tokens. Those keys are assigned to specific devices that carry the app and can be identified via Bluetooth LE. The August server picks up the lock info and attaches them to a unique account for you to manage in the companion app.

Also, because it shares keys with different users, it allows the owner to remotely grant access to others who may want to enter your home, like family and special caregivers, and yes, this means less keys around the house ready to be lost in the most dire situations.

The only downside of the lock is that it comes with batteries that will run out eventually. And since it runs for long enough to end up forgetting it needs batteries, you'll thank the gods that it also runs on old-school keys as well, thus avoiding leaving you locked outside your house.

Working with a Bluetooth 4.0 is also a small issue, since it needs the latest mobile devices equipped with 4.0 to properly work with them.
