Apple is believed to be working on charging dock

A new set of photos that have recently reached the web seem to indicate that Apple might be working on its very own charging dock for the Watch.

Published by German website grobgebloggt.de, these photos are pretty much the first proof that Apple's currently working on such an accessory for its Watch, as previous reports on this coming from people close to the matter have never been confirmed.

The charging dock uses Apple's signature Lightning cable to get power, and you only have to put the Watch on the charging puck placed right in the center. Rumor has it that the device would cost somewhere around $100 (€85), with the Lightning cable to be included in the package as well.

Nightstand mode

Leaving the charging process aside, the most important feature is definitely the added support for nightstand mode, an option that's missing from the Apple Watch right now and that is said to be a priority for the second generation.

Although it was initially believed that the OLED screen used on the Watch could lead to display damage should a nightstand mode be implemented, Apple has apparently found a way to make this possible without any risk. The nightstand mode could come with certain protection systems that would allow the screen to turn off at certain times during the night.

But given the fact that the charging dock is not yet available and that the second-generation Apple Watch is only a few months away, there are two scenarios currently on the table. Either Apple launches it sometime very soon and adds support for Watch 2 or the company waits until the release of the upcoming model and offers backwards compatibility with the first generation.

Either way, it appears that the Apple Watch charging dock is real, and we might not have to wait too long before getting our hands on it.
