The super boring Space Gray is finally going away

If you’re a long-time Apple customer, the chances are that at least one of your iPhones was Space Gray, as Cupertino has apparently found something really special in this version, despite the fact that it’s so similar to the Silver sibling.

And while the company indeed added the Rose Gold option when it introduced the 6s in September 2015, the Space Gray still made the cut, but it turns out that it won’t survive for too long.

A new report coming from Japanese source Mac Otakara reveals that Apple is planning a change in this regard for the upcoming iPhone 7, so the Space Gray option will be replaced with a new Deep Blue version. This option was first introduced in 2013, when Apple launched the iPhone 5s, so it has been available ever since, but it appears that the company is now looking into a more varied color lineup for the iPhone, and the change could come into effect starting with the next-generation model due in September.

Only little is known at this point, and the Japanese claim that this information comes via sources in the supply chain, but it turns out that the iPhone 7 lineup will consist of Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, and Deep Blue versions of both the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch models.

Storage changes also planned

In addition to the change of colors, Apple is also believed to be planning the removal of the 16 GB version from the iPhone lineup, a move that would certainly make sense, given the fact that this version comes with just 11 GB of available space.

With the upcoming iPhone 7 likely to feature an improved camera for the 4.7-inch model and a dual-camera system for the Plus, more storage space would become a must-have, so Apple could replace the entry-level 16 GB version with a 32 GB option.

At the same time, rumor has it that a new 256 GB version of the iPhone would be offered as well, but this is more likely to be exclusive to the larger Plus, which will get the dual-camera upgrade.
