Apple said the iPhone X isn’t necessarily a new-generation device, but the beginning of a new decade for the iPhone, suggesting that future models would be based on this anniversary iPhone and improve its existing design even further.

And now well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, who has until now proved to be extremely accurate on Apple products, says Cupertino will launch not one but two different iPhone models with OLED displays next year.

Additionally, the analyst says the firm is looking into refining the stainless steel metal frame to improve data transmission and Apple allegedly wants to use more parts for this component. The iPhone X uses four parts for the frame, and the company is considering a new design with more elements that would enhance data transmission.

Bigger iPhone X model?

At this point, it’s obviously not clear how Apple could introduce a second OLED model in its lineup, other than adding a completely new SKU or removing one existing configuration. If the company sticks with the 3-model iPhone lineup, this means one of the versions would stick with LCD a little bit longer, and this is very likely to be the 4.7-inch iPhone.

On the other hand, there’s a chance Apple introduces a second iPhone X version with an even bigger screen, similar to Samsung and its Galaxy S8 lineup. The bigger iPhone X model would be a direct rival to the Samsung Galaxy S9+ which is expected to come with a screen of at least 6.2 inches.

The analyst also says the TrueDepth camera enabling Face ID facial recognition won’t get significant hardware upgrades next year, as Apple wants the avoid any potential delay that might be caused by a new complex camera system. Furthermore, the firm is expected to bring Face ID to other devices as well, including the next-generation iPad.
