14 DAY TRIAL // We’ve known for a while that Apple is projected to launch the next iPhone in September, but no other specifics have been available despite the plethora of leaks that have reached the web lately.
According to Evan Blass, however, who keeps excellent track of information regarding unreleased handsets, including Apple’s own iPhone, the unveiling will take place in the week of September 12. It’s not a secret that Apple is usually looking to start selling new iPhone models towards the end of the week, so the press conference to introduce this year’s version could take place on Wednesday or Thursday, with sales to begin the next day.
If this is true, then the next iPhone is likely to make its first public appearance on September 14 or 15 while pre-orders could begin either after the conference or at noon on September 16.
iPhone 7 or iPhone 6-something?
Most of the features that will be part of the next iPhone are already known, including here the new cameras, the removal of the headphone jack, or the antenna lines placed at the top and the bottom of the device, but there’s one thing that is still uncertain at this point: the name of the iPhone.
While it would make sense to see Apple launching this year’s model as iPhone 7, rumor has it that the company could very well keep it a variation of the iPhone 6 in order to save the seventh generation name for next year’s release, when bigger changes are planned.
Blass himself has said that Apple is unlikely to launch this model as iPhone 7 and often referred to the device as “2016 iPhone,” so there are big chances for the company to keep it part of the iPhone 6 lineup.
Next year, Apple will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, and to do it in style, the company is believed to be working on a major overhaul, including an all-screen front design, all front-facing parts incorporated in the screen, and a no-bezel approach. That’s why the company might be saving the iPhone 7 name for next year’s model, if we are to trust existing rumors.
For the moment, it’s better to take everything with a healthy pinch of salt, but we’re getting there, and Apple should fully unveil the next iPhone in less than 2 months.
