Apple is expected to launch three different iPhone models this year, one of which could come with an LCD screen and hit the shelves at a lower price, and information coming from the supply chain indicate that this particular configuration will be the big star of the 2018 generation.

A report from South Korea-based ETNews indicates that Apple wants to produce no less than 155 million units of the LCD iPhone, while the OLED models will account for only 55 million units of this year’s entire inventory.

In other words, Apple will make three times more iPhones equipped with an LCD screen than OLED, as the company expects this particular configuration to be the best-selling in the entire lineup.

Three iPhones launching this year

People familiar with the matter said Apple is working on a three-model generation this year, beginning with a 5.8-inch OLED version that would be positioned as a direct successor to the iPhone X. Additionally, Apple is also working on a Plus-size version of the iPhone X, likely to feature a 6.4- or 6.5-inch OLED panel, but also on a more affordable model equipped with a 6.1-inch LCD screen.

This LCD configuration could hit the shelves with a price tag of around $699, according to speculation in this regard, but in order to reduce the price, Apple could also abandon key features like the dual-camera system, 3D Touch, and the glass body allowing for wireless charging.

As usual, all these details are nothing but rumors in the Apple world as the company remains completely tight-lipped on everything, but judging from where the iPhone X is right now, a more affordable model could reignite demand for the device.

Sales of the iPhone X are said to be well below expectations, with the high price tag considered to be one of the biggest drawbacks. Customers are believed to be holding back on their purchase, at least until the fall of 2018, on prospects of a more affordable version that could launch.
