Tim Cook says the company won’t kill of the mini

The Mac mini is one of Apple’s devices that haven’t been upgraded in a long time, with the last refresh introduced nearly three years ago.

This made many believe that this is the end of the road for the product, especially because Apple has shown that’s focusing more on the iMac and the MacBook these days.

But Apple CEO Tim Cook says there are no plans to kill off the Mac mini, or at least not yet, hinting in an answer sent to a user that an upgrade is still possible. Of course, Cook hasn’t provided any specifics, but his message left room for some speculation, especially among hardcore company fans who don’t want to see the Mac mini go.

“I’m glad you love Mac mini. We love it too. Our customers have found so many creative and interesting uses for Mac mini. While it is not time to share any details, we do plan for Mac mini to be an important part of our product line going forward,” Tim Cook has been quoted as saying.

While Tim Cook doesn’t say it very clearly, an upgraded to the Mac mini could indeed be planned, though at the same time, this statement could be an indication that the company doesn’t plan to kill off the device just yet.

A less mini Apple mini

On the other hand, this isn’t the first time when Apple executives suggest that there’s something big on its way to the Mac mini series, with Phil Schiller hinting earlier this year that the device still has a part in the company’s product strategy.

“On that I’ll say the Mac mini is an important product in our lineup and we weren’t bringing it up because it’s more of a mix of consumer with some pro use. The Mac mini remains a product in our lineup, but nothing more to say about it today,” he said when asked about upgrades to the Mac mini.

The most recent rumors pointing to a refresh of the Mac mini suggested that a major makeover turning the device less mini, but other than that, there’s very little info on Apple’s plans.
