Apple had just surprised everyone today when it published the first beta builds of the iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 4.2 operating systems via its Apple Developer website.

We have no idea what happened with the iOS 11.1, tvOS 11.1 or watchOS 4.1 releases, which got their fifth and fourth betas respectively last week, but Apple is now seeding fresh new betas of the iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 4.2 operating systems.

Tagged as builds 15C5092b for iOS 11.2 Beta 1, 15K5085b for tvOS 11.2 Beta 1, and 15S5085b for watchOS 4.2 Beta 1, the new betas are available for download from the Apple Developer account if you're an application developer with a paid and active subscription.

The release notes Apple published on its developer website contain only information about known issues that need to be addressed during the development cycle of iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 4.2 releases, but there's nothing in there about any new features.

Is Apple dropping iOS 11.1, tvOS 11.1 and watchOS 4.1?

With today's beta releases of iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 4.2, we can only wonder if is Apple dropping development of the iOS 11.1, tvOS 11.1, and watchOS 4.1 software updates, which many of us are currently using on our enrolled devices.

Apple made no announcement on its developer website, and we have no idea why the company decided to push new beta versions of another version of its iOS, tvOS, and watchOS operating systems, though it didn't update the macOS High Sierra releases.

For now, we only know that the tvOS 11.2 Beta 1 brings improvements to the HDR and 4K experience of the new Apple TV 4K set-top box. On the other hand, iOS 11.2 and watchOS 4.2 should feature some enhancements too, though Apple is yet to disclose them.

If you're a developer and want to jump into beta testing, you can install the new iOS 11.2, tvOS 11.2, and watchOS 4.2 builds via the OTA (Over-the-Air) update system. Public beta versions haven't yet been published at the moment of writing, but we believe they're coming soon as well, so stay tuned.
