Apple is getting ready to officially kick off the pre-order program for the iPhone X, so it took the Apple Store down as per the company’s typical approach when new products are launched.

iPhone X pre-orders will begin at 12:01 AM PT, which means the Apple Online Store should be back up in just a few hours, though we’ve heard concerns that due to the high demand for the new model some slowdowns are expected shortly after the launch.

The iPhone X is without a doubt the biggest iPhone release in a long time, especially given the overhaul that Apple has implemented on its 10th anniversary model.

iPhone X features

The iPhone X comes with an edge-to-edge bezel-less OLED display, a substantial upgrade from the existing LCD screen that’s being used on the other iPhone models on the market. This is one of the reasons Apple is launching the iPhone X later than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, as people close to the matter revealed that the company hit a number of production issues that forced it to hold back the release.

Additionally, the iPhone X is giving up on Touch ID for Face ID, as Apple failed to embed the fingerprint sensor into the screen and instead decided to go all-in on facial recognition. The device thus features a notch at the top of the screen that’s the home of 3D sensing cameras, along with other sensors and the FaceTime camera.

And last but not least, the iPhone X also introduces a bunch of other changes, including a vertically placed dual-camera system, a glass body for wireless charging just like the iPhone 8, and gesture support that enables users to make the most of iOS without a home button.

Shipments of the iPhone X will start on November 3. Prices begin at $999 for the version with 64GB storage and go up to $1,149 for the one featuring 256GB storage.
