Today, October 19, 2016, Apple has seeded the fifth Beta builds of the upcoming macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1 operating systems to both registered developers and public beta testers.

Tagged as build 16B2553a, the Public Beta 5 and Developer Beta 5 milestones of the macOS 10.12.1 Sierra operating system is now available for those running macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 4 or Public Beta 4, and it comes one week after its release. You can install the new build on a supported Mac through the Mac App Store.

On the other hand, the iOS 10.1 Beta 5 release is tagged as builds 14B72 and 14B72c, depending on the devices where it is installed, namely iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 7, as well as various iPad and iPod touch models. However, a Public Beta 5 build is not available for iOS 10.1 at the moment of writing this article.

iOS 10.1 could launch as soon as next week

Now that both iOS 10.1 Beta 5 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 5 are out, we should see new Beta versions of the watchOS 3.1 and tvOS 10.0.1 as well, which could be announced in the coming days. We recommend reading our in-depth tutorial on how to install the macOS Sierra Beta and iOS 10 Beta releases if you want to get an early taste of what's coming.

The fact of the matter is that next week will be huge for Apple fans, especially if they live in Japan, as the Cupertino company is preparing to launch its famous Apple Pay service there on the 25th of October, which means that the iOS 10 mobile operating system consumers are using must be updated to the iOS 10.1 release for Apple Pay to work correctly.

Also, it appears that two days later, on October 27, 2016, Apple is holding a media event to reveal a new line of Macs, which could come preinstalled with the macOS 10.12.1 Sierra operating system. Until then, we recommend staying away from installing the Beta releases as they might not offer a solid experience on your devices.
