Apple started two new repair programs on November 9, 2018, addressing hardware issues in both the iPhone X and the 13-inch MacBook Pros with no Touch Bar, as discovered by Bloomberg even though there was no public announcement issued by Cupertino.

According to "iPhone X Display Module Replacement Program for Touch Issues" page, "Apple has determined that some iPhone X displays may experience touch issues due to a component that might fail on the display module."

iPhone X devices affected by this issues feature displays which will not respond or irregularly respond to touches, with the additional note that some of these defective displays will only have limited non-responsive areas.

Furthermore, customers who have bought a faulty iPhone X unit may also notice that the smartphone will perform various actions such as swipes and taps even when the display is not touched.

Owners of iPhone X units affected by these display issues can replace their display modules for free of charge either in an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

The 13-inch MacBook Pros that were found to exhibit hardware issues are now part of Apple's "13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program" repair program.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service all faulty devices for free

According to Apple "a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives (SSD) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units have an issue that may result in data loss and failure of the drive."

Furthermore, as the repair program's page states, "13-inch MacBook Pro units with affected drives were sold between June 2017 and June 2018."

Apple says that only customers who bought a "MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)"are entitled to have their drives serviced for free. To find out if your Mac is one of the affected units you can enter the serial number on the repair program page.

Both programs cover affected iPhone X and affected MacBook Pro models for three years following the date of the first retail sale of the unit.

Although Apple never mentioned the display issues affecting some iPhone X units until starting this repair program, the fact that the iPhone X was discontinued after the new iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR were launched might finally have an explanation.
