14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Apple has announced that its employees will start enjoying the new 175-acre campus named Apple Park in April this year. Apple intends to relocate more than 12,000 employees, a process that might take over six months to complete.
Apple Park isn’t 100% ready, as Apple has announced that constructions of buildings and parklands will continue through this summer, as employees start taking up their offices inside the new campus. Apple Park is located in the center of Santa Clara Valley and will transform miles of asphalt into green space.
Steve Jobs envisioned the Apple Park as “a center for creativity and collaboration,” and in his honor, the theater at Apple Park will be named the Steve Jobs Theater. Steve Jobs would have turned 62 this Friday, on February 24.
Ring-shaped campus with curved glass panels
Apple Park features an impressive architecture; the ring-shaped campus has a 2.8-million square-foot main building made with the world’s largest curved glass panels. The Steve Jobs Theater will be located atop of a hill, overlooking meadows and the main building.
The theater is set to open later this year and have 1,000 seats and a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder, 165 feet in diameter with a metallic carbon-fiber roof. The campus will run entirely on renewable energy and will be the world’s largest naturally ventilated building, requiring no heat or air conditioning for nine months of the year.
“Steve’s vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.
Apple Park will also have a visitors center with an Apple Store, a café and a 100,000-square-foot fitness center for Apple employees. There will also be a secure research and development center, while parklands offer two miles of walking and running paths for employees, together with an orchard, meadow and pond inside the interior grounds.
