14 DAY TRIAL // Apple's promised $29 USD iPhone battery replacement program is already here, and you should start preparing your old iPhone to send it in service for a new battery.
A couple of weeks ago, Apple admitted that it released an iOS software update last year that throttles the performance of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s devices with degraded batteries to prevent unexpected shutdowns under certain conditions like cold weather if the battery had a low charge.
The so-called feature was recently extended to iPhone 7 devices as well, which caused people to sue Apple for not playing it fair and forcing them to buy new iPhone models. To avoid more lawsuits, Apple apologized to customers for slowing down their old devices, reducing the price of out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacements with $50 USD, from $79 USD to $29 USD.
Initially promised for the end of January 2018, the promotional $29 USD battery replacement program is available now for anyone with an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, or iPhone 7 Plus device whose battery needs to be replaced. The program is available worldwide for one year, until December 2018.
Here's how to get a new battery for your iPhone
If you believe your iPhone is getting slow lately, you can send it to Apple for a battery replacement, which will cost you $29 USD plus shipping taxes. To send your iPhone to Apple, you must access the support site at https://support.apple.com, click on the iPhone section, and then click the "Repair options" area.
There, click on the "iPhone battery & power repair information" link to start your repair request. If your iPhone's battery needs replacement and it’s not covered under the AppleCare+ or Apple Limited Warranty, the service fee is $29 USD instead of $79 USD like it was before the whole iPhone battery fiasco, but you should hurry because Apple says initial replacement batteries supplies are limited.
