Microsoft’s Surface Pro is getting another Apple rival

Apple took the wraps off the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro at WWDC a few hours ago, once again going after Microsoft’s Surface Pro in the 2-in-1 market that the company originally ignored.

As rumored, the new iPad Pro with a 10.5-inch screen features smaller bezels, as Apple wanted a bigger screen to fit in the chassis of the 9.7-inch model. In the end, the new iPad Pro is a little bit bigger, but it still sports a screen that’s 20 percent larger than on the smaller model.

The 10.5-inch screen is “the most advanced display on the planet,” Apple says, in a statement that’s clearly aimed at Microsoft, who also praised its Surface displays on the most recent models, the Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro 4.

Best display on the planet

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro has a resolution of 2224x1668 pixels and offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which is double the refresh rate that a standard LCD display has. The screen offers 600 nits brightness, P3 wide color display, and 1.8 percent reflectivity.

The new iPad Pro is “more powerful than most PC laptops,” Apple continued, as it struggles to deal with the invasion of 2-in-1 devices and laptops running Windows 10. The company hasn’t directly mentioned Microsoft’s Surface lineup, but some of the statements its executives made on the stage at WWDC were clearly aimed at the Redmond-based rival.

Power on the new model comes from the A10X chip, which is 30 percent faster than the previous-generation iPad Pro. In terms of graphics, the 10.5-inch model is 40 percent faster, Apple said.

Of course, the device comes with a new Smart Keyboard to fit its dimensions, with Apple also introducing a new Pencil, which it says is the fastest on the market at this point.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is available with 3 storage options, namely 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB, with pricing starting at $649 and going all the way up to $949. There will be four colors available, Silver, Gold, Space Gray, and Rose Gold, with either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and LTE.
