As expected, one day after the release of the iOS 10.2, watchOS 3.1.1, and tvOS 10.1 operating systems for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, and Apple TV devices respectively, Apple announced macOS Sierra 10.12.2.

macOS Sierra 10.12.2 is the second stability update to the Sierra (version number 10.12) series of the macOS operating system for supported MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Mini, and MacBook computers. As usual with any such maintenance update, it improves the security, compatibility, and stability of your Mac.

However, there are a bunch of new features and improvements implemented in macOS Sierra 10.12.2, such as setup and reliability fixes to the Auto Unlock functionality, as well as support for capturing screenshot of the Touch Bar using the Cmd+Shift+6 keyboard shortcut or the Grab app.

Boot Camp supports new installations of Windows 8 and 7

Another interesting feature added in today's macOS Sierra 10.12.2 final release is an updated Boot Camp multi-boot utility that supports new installations of the Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows 7 operating systems. Also, the Touch Bar Control Strip now allows the addition of a Chinese Trackpad Handwriting button.

Some users experienced graphics issues on MacBook Pro (October 2016) computers, which might go away if they upgrade to macOS Sierra 10.12.2, which also adds audio quality improvements when using FaceTime and Siri with Bluetooth headphones, and improves the stability of the Photos app when creating and ordering books.

Other than that, macOS Sierra 10.12.2 promises to improve the opt-out and setup experience for the iCloud Desktop and Documents app, updates the Mail app to display notifications about incoming messages when using a Microsoft Exchange account, and makes it possible to install third-party Safari extensions.

It also looks like the System Integrity Protection feature has been re-enabled for users of MacBook Pro (October 2016) computers, and the Touch Bar emoji picker will no longer appear on the display. The delivery of Optimized Storage alerts was improved as well, and you should update your Mac to macOS Sierra 10.12.2 as soon as possible.
