Apple is getting ready to take the wraps off a new iPhone later this month, and all rumors seem to indicate that the device will come with a 4-inch screen and thus be a more affordable option than the current models.

How affordable is yet to be determined, but according to an analyst, the device should be priced at approximately $549 (€485), given the premium components that’ll be installed under the hood.

Specifically, it was originally believed that the iPhone SE could come with the same price as the iPhone 5s, as it was often referred to as a direct successor to this model, so everyone thought that a $450 (€400) price tag was very likely. Other sources claimed that Apple was targeting a $450 (€420) price for the model, but it appears that the device could actually be even more expensive.

15 million sold units

RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani has said in a note to investors (via AI) that, given the premium components that Apple would be using on the iPhone SE (e.g. a metal casing, A9 and M9 processors, 8 or 12 MP main camera, and Touch ID - all of which are unconfirmed so far, but they’re very likely), the price should be somewhere in the region of $549.

Certainly, this does make sense, although such a price tag brings it closer to the 4.7-inch model and could actually have an impact on sales. Apple, however, doesn’t believe so, and according to the analyst, approximately 10 to 15 million units are expected to be sold.

Without a doubt, the 4-inch iPhone will be aimed at customers who still own older models, with Apple trying to convince them to upgrade and adopt new technologies, such as Apple Pay. The price, however, is playing a key role, so it remains to be seen if $549 is a big price to pay for someone who already has a 4-inch iPhone.
