Apple has just lost another important fight against rival Samsung, as Consumer Reports crowned the Galaxy S8+ the world’s top smartphone ahead of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The most recent smartphone rankings published by Consumer Reports praise a series of features on the Samsung Galaxy S8, but at the same time, they also admit some of the shortcomings, like the fingerprint sensor that Samsung moved to the back of the phone near the camera.

While the Galaxy S8+ is crowned the number one smartphone at this point, the smaller Galaxy S8 is the runner-up, followed by the Galaxy S7 Edge and the LG G6. The iPhone 7 Plus is only fifth in the charts, which is quite bad news for Apple, especially given that Samsung’s previous-generation flagship, the S7 Edge, is still ahead of its latest model.

So why is the Galaxy S8+ considered such an excellent product? Consumer Reports says “the minimalist, modern, and elegant” design is a major achievement, as it allows for a bigger screen without actually increasing the dimensions of the phone’s chassis.

The organization admits that using it with one hand is a bit difficult, though, and explains that the location of the fingerprint sensor on the back isn’t quite the best place for this feature.

The iPhone 7 Plus is losing the battle against Samsung in the camera department as well, as testers explain that although the Galaxy S8+ lacks a dual-camera configuration, performance is still better than what Apple’s device can provide users at this point.

“A few top-end cameras, including the iPhone 7 Plus and the LG G6, have dual rear-facing cameras, to enhance either zoom or wide-angle photography. The Samsung phones haven’t gone that route yet - and we don’t think they suffer for it,” the report reads.

Apple is expected to take the wraps off the next-generation iPhone this fall, with the company going the same path as Samsung and preparing a model with narrower bezels and an OLED display. Furthermore, Apple is reportedly planning a series of bigger upgrades on its iPhone as well, including wireless charging, a fingerprint reader under the screen, and facial recognition system.
