A recently published research reveals the fact that Apple's latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones have surpassed the previous iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models to become the most used iPhone devices in the United States.

Securities research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) said last week that 48 million iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units are in circulation in the U.S. compared to the 47 million iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus units.

From the remaining 46 million iPhone units, the research shows that 39 million devices in circulation are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, which are the cheapest 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models one can buy. The remaining 7 million units appear to be 4-inch iPhone SE.

iPhone SE sells growing, more iPhone 6/7 Plus models are in use

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners' latest research also noted the fact that the iPhone SE sales are growing, and the 4-inch model now already reached 6 percent market share. Additionally, the research shows that people are buying more iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus or iPhone 7 Plus models.

The "Plus" iPhone models have now hit 38 percent over the past year, from 29 percent on June last year, when Apple celebrated one billion iPhone sales, making the iPhone one of the most popular smartphone devices ever created with an overall iPhone base in the United States up of 141 million units.

These statistics are only for the U.S., but the iPhone is very popular in many other parts of the world, especially in Asia, and we can't argue with that because it's a well-designed smartphone. And it finally looks like the missing 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models is no longer an issue for buyers.

With that in mind, we can't wait for Apple to unveil the next iPhone model, which should happen in a few weeks from today. The rumored iPhone 8 device should bring quite a few exciting changes over the iPhone 7 model, including a new facial recognition system, 4K video recording at 60 FPS, upgraded camera and battery.
