According to Apple's latest App Store statistics that the company refreshes from time to time to reflect the real world usage of its latest iOS operating system, more than half of devices now run iOS 11.

Officially launched on September 19, 2017, iOS 11 is the latest release of Apple's mobile operating system used on supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices worldwide. Nearly two months later, it would appear that half of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users have installed iOS 11 on their devices.

Apple recently updated the App Store statistics page to inform app developers about the number of devices running a specific iOS version, and it looks like iOS 11 is currently installed on 53 percent of them, while 38 percent are still running the previous release, iOS 10, and 10 percent use an older version not mentioned there.

These statistics are measured by Apple based on the devices that access the iOS App Store to purchase and download apps, providing real-world metrics to application developers who want to update their apps to support the latest iOS version, iOS 11 in this case.

iOS 11.2 coming soon with more improvements and new features

On October 31, iOS 11 received its first point release, version iOS 11.1, which re-added the 3D Touch App Switcher and introduced over 70 new emoji, along with various other enhancements and security patches, which contributed to the adoption of the operating system on supported devices.

In the meantime, Apple works on the second point release, iOS 11.2, which is currently in early beta testing phase, with the second beta release out the door as of yesterday, November 7, 2017. iOS 11.2 promises to add even more features, such as Apple Pay Cash in iMessages, and probably iCloud message sync.

If you haven't updated to iOS 11, now it's a better time than ever to do it, especially if you're running iOS 10, which is a deprecated version that's most likely prone to attacks. To update, simply open the Settings app, go to the General section, and tap on Software Updates.
