14 DAY TRIAL // Immediately after releasing the major iOS 11 update to supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, Apple informed developers that it increased the limit for OTA (Over-the-Air) App Store downloads to 150 MB.
iOS 10 allowed users to only download apps from the App Store that had less than 100 MB in size when using a cellular connection like 3G or LTE (4G). That was a good thing, in the way that you would save a lot of money on your cell phone bills each month.
But things have evolved lately and more, and more mobile carriers now offer unlimited data plans all over the world, so being able to download apps from the App Store that have more than 100 MB in size it's a good thing. Though, Apple now set the limit to 150 MB.
"We’ve increased the cellular download limit from 100 MB to 150 MB, letting customers download more apps from the App Store over their cellular network," said Apple is a post entitled "Higher Limit for Over-the-Air Downloads" on its developer blog.
Update your device to iOS 11 to download bigger apps on cellular
Having said that, you still have to update your devices to iOS 11 if you want to download bigger apps while on cellular. Don't wait until 11.0.1 or whatever point release Apple will seed when they think something needed to be fixed, go and update now.
You can update via OTA updates by opening the Settings app, going into General settings and accessing Software Updates. All you have to do is to download the iOS 11.0 software update and install it. Of course, you can also do the update manually via iTunes on Mac or Windows, or grab the iOS 11 IPSW images.
