Stats show Safari managed to increase its share last month

Browsers is one particular market where Apple and Microsoft aren’t competing against each other, mostly because the availability of their solutions is limited to specific platforms.

Apple’s own Safari is only available on the company’s macOS, after the Windows version was discontinued in 2012, while Microsoft’s Edge can only be used on Windows 10, with no plans to release it elsewhere whatsoever.

But even though Windows 10 itself is growing much faster than macOS, Apple’s Safari is actually increasing its market share at a higher pace than Microsoft Edge, though it has a substantially smaller userbase.

Statistics offered by NetMarketShare indicate that in May 2017, Microsoft Edge improved only 0.01 percent, growing from 5.62 percent the month before to 5.63 percent. Apple’s Safari, on the other hand, posted an increase of 0.12 percent, going from 3.44 percent to 3.56 percent in just a single month.

Google Chrome has no rival on the desktop

And while Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari are going head to head in this chart, Google’s Chrome barely has a rival, as it’s currently running on 59.36 percent of the PCs out there.

This means nearly 6 out of 10 computers installed Chrome, and given the fact that more than 90 percent of systems are powered by Windows, it also means that the majority of users replaced Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge with Google’s browser.

Internet Explorer is second in last month’s statistics with a share of 17.55 percent and declining, mostly because Microsoft has already pledged not to release any new features for this browser, but to stick with security fixes and patches and move the full focus to Edge.

And last but not least, Mozilla’s Firefox is the third most popular browser with 11.98 percent market share, but given Internet Explorer’s fast decline, there’s a good chance it’ll soon take over the second spot without moving a single finger.
