Sold by a third-party company for “just” $249

Apple's AirPods are pretty hard to come by considering that the Cupertino-based company won't sell you a pair until after about six weeks. When the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were unveiled, many fans were unpleasantly surprised that Apple decided to ditch the 3.5mm audio jack.

On top of that, due to technical issues, the company couldn't release the long-awaited AirPods until December. The good news is both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with an adapter in the sales package, so you can plug your own headphones into the lightning port.

But what if you want the AirPods, or already bought a pair, but wish they would be another color? Well, it appears that a U.S. company allows iPhone fans to purchase the AirPods in black, or have them painted in black if they already own the white ones sold by Apple.

BlackPods is the company that offers the product for no less than $249, which is $90 more expensive than Apple's AirPods that cost $159. These BlackPods are the same as those sold by Apple, but they are painted black.

At BlackPods, we've developed a proprietary coating system specifically for Apple's AirPods. Our three-phase approach yields a luxurious scratch-resistant finish. BlackPods are the perfect complement to any Black, Jet Black, or Space Gray iPhone.”

It's also worth mentioning that those who already purchased the white AirPods can send them to BlackPods and pay just $99 to have them painted black. The entire process is said to take about 3 days.

However, if you don't own Apple's AirPods and want to purchase the BlackPods directly, you will have to join a waiting list since the company can't cope with the high number of orders, just like Apple.

Every pair of customized AirPods we produce is hand-finished by a team of skilled artisans in Brooklyn, NY. Whether you purchase them through us or send yours in, each pair of AirPods is subjected to a rigorous visual and quality inspection.”

Unfortunately, there's no telling whether or not this business is legit, so please contact the company before paying for these so-called BlackPods.
