New iPhone X color could launch later this year

Apple has reportedly started production of a gold iPhone X, with a preview possibly expected at the company’s spring event on March 27.

Very little is known at this point about this new model, but a photo leaked by Benjamin Geskin seems to indicate that the device already entered the production lines with the D21A codename.

Judging from this photo, the new gold iPhone X looks more like Rose Gold, a color that Apple itself introduced with the release of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

This isn’t the first time a gold iPhone X makes the headlines, as similar information reached the web last year ahead of the official launch of the device. At that point, however, it was believed the leak was fake, though Geskin claims Apple actually delayed the release of this special color until 2018.

New iPhones, new colors

The upcoming spring event seems to be the perfect occasion for Apple to introduce a new iPhone X color, as the 2018 generation launch event taking place in the fall is more likely to be all about new models and less about such minor news.

Apple is expected to launch a successor to the iPhone X this year, as well as a Plus-sized version coming with a 6.4 or 6.5-inch display, offering pretty much the same features but with a bigger screen.

This device, however, hasn’t been confirmed until now and it’s still in the rumor stage, with Apple said to be exploring a three-model lineup for this year which could also include a more affordable LCD iPhone.

For the time being, however, the iPhone X is selling well below expectations and analysts are reluctant the device would recover in the coming months, mostly because of its high selling price. The cheaper iPhone launching later this year could more or less address this problem, though Apple clearly needs to come up with a temporary solution in the meantime.
