Apple today released the watchOS 4.2 software update for all supported Apple Watch devices, bringing various improvements and new features, including Apple Pay Cash support.

The watchOS 4.2 release comes only one day after the tvOS 11.2 update for supported Apple TV devices, as well as three days after the iOS 11.2 software update for supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

It's the second maintenance update to the watchOS 4 operating system series, coming five weeks after the watchOS 4.1 release to add new features like Apple Pay Cash support, which lets users send and receive money using the Messages and Wallet apps.

Additionally, watchOS 4.2 adds support for HomeKit faucets and sprinklers, and introduces a new workout type designed to let third-party apps track things like distance, elevation descended, number of runs or average speed for various sports on Apple Watch Series 3.

watchOS 4.2 also fixes a few bugs, one that could make Apple Watch devices restart randomly when you asked Siri about the weather, an issue causing scrolling to be disabled in Heart Rate, and a problem that won't allow simultaneous alarms and timers to be removed separately.

Here's how to update your Apple Watch to watchOS 4.2

To update your Apple Watch to watchOS 4.2, you need to first install the iOS 11.2 software update on your iPhone, then use the Apple Watch app on your iPhone to update the watchOS 4 operating system by going into General -> Software Update.

Please keep in mind that you need to have at least 50 percent battery power on your Apple Watch to be able to update to watchOS 4.2 or make sure you place the smartwatch on the wireless charger, as well as to ensure it's in the range of your iPhone.
