Even if the official release OS X 10.11 El Capitan operating system is just around the corner, Apple has decided to use the free time to release a new beta version for developers who have already installed the first OS X 10.11.1 pre-release on their Macs.

The OS X 10.10.1 Beta 2 release has the 15B22c build and it can be downloaded by all Mac users enrolled in the Apple Developer program from the OS X Download area on Apple Developer website.

As traditional, the second beta of OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan comes with no release notes regarding the changes, but since the release of OS X 10.11 is just around the corner, this pre-release might feature a number of bug fixes designed to get rid of some of the issues experienced by users of the gold master candidate build released by Apple on September 9, 2015.

Apple launched the first beta of OS X 10.11.1 two weeks ago, on September 18, followed by an OS X 10.11.1 public beta release on September 21. That pre-release build added Unicode 8 support and a number new emoji characters such as a hot dog, a taco, a burrito, and a somewhat controversial middle finger, to mention just a few.

Backup your Mac beforehand and only install beta builds on test computers

As is the case with all pre-release versions launched by Apple, you have to make sure that you don't install it on any Macs used in production because of the inherent bugs and issues that might plague this type of OS X releases.

Moreover, according to Apple's build notes, "Please be aware that you will not be able to revert back to your previous system after updating. Please install this update on a system you are prepared to erase if necessary."

Since we're talking about a possibly unstable pre-release OS X version, before installing the El Capitan 10.11.1 Beta 2, you should back up your Mac just in case there are some serious bugs that escaped Apple's scrutiny with possible data loss consequences.
