After releasing the iOS 11.1 software update to supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, Apple released today the first point release of its latest macOS High Sierra 10.13 operating system for Macs.

Just like with iOS 11.1, Apple is patching that nasty WPA2 KRACK (Key Reinstallation Attack) security vulnerability that puts virtually any smart device that connects to the Internet and uses the WPA2 protocol at risk of being hacked, including MacBook and iMac computers.

So this alone should be the main reason to update your Mac right now to the macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 update, which also introduces support over 70 new emoji, including mythical creatures, food, animals, gender-neutral characters, clothing options, and more expressive smiley faces.

Bluetooth improvements, more reliable Microsoft Exchange sync

Besides the new emoji and the Wi-Fi security patch, the macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 software update also adds improvements to Bluetooth, which could become unavailable during Apple Pay transactions, and makes the Microsoft Exchange message sync more reliable in Mail.

In addition, it fixes an issue with Spotlight where keyboard input wasn't accepted, and, as usual, it improves the overall stability, compatibility, reliability, and security of your Mac by fixing numerous vulnerabilities discovered since the release of macOS High Sierra.

Again, to update your Mac to the macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 release, you'll have to open the Mac App Store application, go to the Updates tab (click on it a few times until the new version appears), download and install the new version, which comes accompanied by the iTunes 12.7.1 music player.

The iTunes 12.7.1 update only includes minor app and performance improvements. Please save all your work before updating to macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 because your Mac will be rebooted automatically once the update has been downloaded.
