New betas now available for developers and public testers

Apple has just released two new betas of iOS 10, with the company synchronizing the developer beta and the public beta to ship both of them at the same time.

iOS 10 beta 6 for developers and public beta 5 for testers can be downloaded right now via the standard software update system, as long as the iPhone is registered to receive preview versions of iOS 10.

Without a doubt, the number one question concerns the changes that are available in this build. First of all, the information that Apple has posted in the software update screen doesn’t provide more than the usual bug fixes and improvements reference, so it’s hard to tell if anything has changed without actually installing the two betas.

Fix for the dock bug

But at first glance, it turns out that Apple has fixed one of the widespread bugs in the previous beta impacting the dock and causing flashes and pulsing icons when tilting the screen of the iPhone. We’ve described this bug in detail here, and fortunately, Apple has taken note and fixed it in record time.

Other than that, given the rather small size of the updates, it appears that Apple hasn’t implemented too many visual changes, so the focus has been mostly on fixing bugs and improving performance. This seems to be a rushed release, though, and Apple most likely hurried up to bring these betas out as fast as possible to correct the aforementioned dock bug.

We’re now installing the latest betas on our iPhones here at Softpedia and will let you know if there are any other major changes available for developers or public beta testers. But just like before, don’t forget that these are still preview builds of iOS 10, and bugs or performance issues are something to be expected.

The final version of iOS 10 is likely to see daylight next month, so we’re less than a month away from GM, which means that Apple doesn’t have so much time to fix bugs that we come across in these builds. In other words, betas should become more stable as we get closer to the public release, so hopefully, today’s new versions bring important improvements in this regard.
