After being in development for the past six weeks, Apple released today the final version of the iOS 10.2 mobile operating system for supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

iOS 10.2 is not a major version of Apple's mobile OS, but it's an important point release that brings numerous improvements across various apps, and introduces the new TV app that the Cupertino company unveiled in September during its "Hello Again" event. The companion TV app is a replacement for the Videos app and it's only for US residents.

"iOS 10.2 introduces new features including the TV app (US only), a new and unified experience for accessing your TV programmes and films across multiple video apps. Emoji have been beautifully redesigned to reveal even more detail, and over 100 new emoji have been added including new faces, food, animals, sports, and professions," read the release notes.

Photos, Messages, Music, News, and Mail receive various improvements

Aside from introducing the companion TV app and those beautiful new emojis, iOS 10.2 is bundled with a bunch of improvements for the Photos, Mail, Music, Messages, and News apps. These are mostly bug fixes, and we invite you to take a look at the screenshot gallery attached below to see them in detail. There are also some accessibility changes, such as BraillePen 14 support for VoiceOver.

iOS 10.2 also improves Bluetooth performance and connectivity with third-party accessories, adds notification support for HomeKit accessories, including window coverings, occupancy, motion, smoke, door/window, carbon monoxide, and water leak sensors. It's a recommended update for everyone using iOS 10.1.1, especially because it might just improve your device's battery life too.

Please note that if you're using iOS 10.2 Public Beta 8/Beta 8, you won't receive any other update as that's the same as today's final build. Also today, Apple unveiled the final versions of its tvOS 10.1 and watchOS 3.1.1 operating systems for Apple TV and Apple Watch devices, respectively. Xcode 8.2 IDE is available too for application developers, and macOS Sierra 10.12.2 is coming soon.
