iTunes for Windows 10 release should happen soon

Microsoft announced that Apple would launch a Windows 10 version of iTunes back at the Build developer conference last year, and now it turns out that the iPhone maker is finally ready to release the app.

An AppleCare advisor took to reddit to reveal that the release of iTunes in the Microsoft Store is imminent, adding that the listing is already available internally and should go public very soon.

“Just received training for the release, with wordage saying that it is already out. Can not find it on the store currently, but it must be very soon. I am an AppleCare advisor,” the post reads.

Additionally, the same alleged AppleCare advisor said the app would be able to detect existing installs of iTunes and then migrate all data to offer seamless transition to the Microsoft Store version.

“Upon launch, the program will detect any previous installations, migrate necessary data (libraries, iOS backups) and will then look and feel exactly like the installer version from the Apple website.”

iTunes in the Microsoft Store

The Microsoft Store version of iTunes was originally expected by December 31, 2017, but Apple said it needed more time to complete the development process.

While no new ETA was provided at that point, the imminent release of the app now seems to be the perfect timing for Windows 10 users, as Microsoft is also getting ready to launch the new Windows 10 Redstone 4 update. This OS version is projected to be finalized this month, while the global rollout would kick off next month for users who aren’t part of the Insider program.

Bringing iTunes to the Microsoft Store is a clever move for both Microsoft and Apple, as this way, the application would also become available for users who are running Windows 10 with S Mode enabled, which blocks the installation of Win32 software.

This particular OS mode is specifically aimed at educators and students, and given how popular the iPhone is in this particular side of the market and age category, there’s a good chance many will find the new version of iTunes pretty useful.
