New iPad Pro allegedly coming in June, leak indicates

A new leak indicates that Apple might be planning to launch a completely new and redesigned iPad as soon as this June, with Cupertino apparently trying to take advantage of the delays that seem to be impacting Microsoft’s Surface Pro lineup.

Specifically, Apple is believed to be working on giving the final touches to an overhauled iPad Pro that would feature a 10.5-inch display packed into a body that has the same dimensions as the 9.7-inch model. This is possible thanks to a bezel-less design that would make the new iPad Pro one of the most modern 2-in-1s on the market.

There are also rumors pointing to other advanced features, including a fingerprint sensor integrated into the display, but given that this was expected to make its debut on the next-generation iPhone, there’s a small chance to see it going live on the iPad.

Apple iPad Pro vs. Microsoft’s Surface Pro

So why is the arrival of a new iPad Pro bad news for Microsoft? The main reason is that Microsoft itself seems to be delaying the next-generation Surface Pro and instead of launching a completely new model, the company might stick with hardware upgrades and other small improvements to the current version.

Microsoft will talk more about the revised Surface Pro lineup during an event in Shanghai on May 23, but Panos Panay has already confirmed that a Surface Pro 5 is not launching anytime soon.

This means that while Microsoft is only planning to launch a refreshed Surface Pro model, Apple is coming with a completely new-generation iPad that will feature a super-advanced display and possibly other breaking features that aren’t available right now on the existing configurations.

Microsoft’s big advantage is that the Surface Pro is still running the full version of Windows 10, which is substantially more advanced than iOS powering the iPad Pro, so buyers looking for an easy way to be productive will most likely get a Surface anyway.

Expect the new iPad to see daylight in June, with Apple itself hosting the WWDC 2017 keynote on June 5, though it’s not yet known if the conference will also witness new hardware launches.
