During the three-month period between June and August 2015, a study by analytics company comScore shows that Apple's iPhone leads the smartphone OEM market with a 44.1% market share, while the second placed smartphone manufacturer Samsung has a 27.4% share.

Furthermore, according to comScore's analysis, the third place belongs to LG with a 9.1% score, and the fourth and fifth spots are occupied by Motorola and HTC, with 4.7% market share and 3.4% respectively.

Even though Apple managed to raise its market share with 0.6% percent since May 2015, LG is the smartphone OEM with the highest market share increase, 0.9%, which, although impressive, doesn't really count since they haven't managed to enter the double digit market share club Apple and Samsung are in.

Apple's iOS took second place in comScore's smartphone platform top

In the smartphone platforms market share part of comScore's report for the June-August period of 2015, Android took first place with 51.7% and a 0.4% decrease compared to the May results, while Apple's iOS is on the second place with a 44.1% market share and a 0.6% increase.

The last places are taken by Microsoft, BlackBerry, and Symbian, with a total market share of 4.2%, and 2.9%, 1.2%, and 0.1% shares respectively.

comScore also stated in their report that "191.1 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (77.1 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in August."

If we are to, take into consideration the record iPhone 6s and 6s Plus sales reported by Apple in the first weekend after their newest iPhones release and Samsung market share decreasing trend since June 2015 until August 2015, it's safe to assume that Apple will see a record increase in smartphone OEM market share while Samsung might have to face their lowest market share of 2015.

Moreover, this should also affect the smartphone platform top, with Apple's iOS continuing to chip away at Android's dominance in the U.S.
