14 DAY TRIAL // A report that came out yesterday indicated that Apple could expand the iPhone 6s recall program to the iPhone 6 as well, as it allegedly discovered that this particular model could also come with a defective battery.
But in a statement for AI, the Cupertino-based company says that this is not the case, as there’s no evidence that the iPhone 6 comes with a faulty battery unit as well.
“We constantly evaluate service statistics. There are no plans or grounds for a wide iPhone 6 battery exchange program at this time,” a company source was quoted as saying.
Defective batteries
Back in 2016, Apple launched a recall program for the iPhone 6s after discovering that some models came with bad batteries suffering from premature degradation. According to the firm itself, these batteries were exposed to air for too long during the manufacturing process, and this caused them to lose their capacity sooner than expected.
In real life performance, this defective battery causes iPhones to shut down prematurely, even if the device indicates that it still has more than 50 percent of power. There were plenty of reports indicating that some iPhone models were suffering from this issue, but Apple claims that it discovered only “a small number” of devices that actually came with this bad battery.
There were indeed signs that the iPhone 6 might be impacted by the very same problem, but Cupertino now claims that this isn’t the case and the recall problem won’t be expanded to cover any other model beside the iPhone 6s.
Of course, if you experience any glitches with your iPhone 6, you can always contact the company or visit an Apple Store to ask for servicing, but since there won’t be a recall, any repair that won’t be covered by the warranty would come with a fee.
And judging from what many customers are claiming, replacing the battery of an iPhone is quite an expensive repair, with some saying that they paid nearly $150 to have this performed at an Apple Store.
