The iPhone X has recently received the FCC certification, which was the final step that Apple had to go through in order to start selling the 10th anniversary iPhone in the United States.

And while the device has finally passed through the FCC, which most of the time is living proof that start of sales is imminent, there are reports out there pointing to more problems that Apple is trying to deal with at the very last minute and which could in the end cause another delay for the iPhone X.

It’s not a secret – even though Apple hoped it would be – that the iPhone X suffered from several production issues, and the biggest was caused by the new OLED screen that the Cupertino-based giant developed.

The Touch ID saga

Because of the new OLED display, Apple needed more time to decide on the position of the fingerprint sensor, with early plans pointing to an approach that would have this sensor embedded into the screen. Due to technical issues, Apple eventually decided to abandon this idea and remove Touch ID entirely, though this choice was made later than projected.

In its turn, Apple not making a decision on Touch ID at the right time pushed back the start of mass production, and this caused production delays eventually impacting the final start of sales.

And even though we’re only a few weeks ago from the moment the iPhone X should become available for customers, people with knowledge of the matter say that another delay is being considered right now, and the device might after all hit the shelves in December.

This is again caused by production struggles and a very low yield rate due to the complex nature of the TrueDepth camera to be offered on the iPhone X.

Of course, this is just speculation for the time being, and everything should be taken with a pinch of salt, but it’ll be interesting to see if Apple indeed prepares another delay for the iPhone X or it brings it on time to the market.
