The wireless AirPods will arrive next month

Yesterday Apple held its major event, during which it released the next iPhone 7, but one of the highlights was the fact that the Cupertino company ditched the cord on headphones and introduced wireless earbuds that go by the name of AirPods.

The design of the AirPods is basically the same as the one for previous headphones, minus the cord. However, the technology inside of the buds changed, as Apple added a battery, antenna, microphone, W1 chip, dual accelerometers, and dual optical sensors.

The headphones are expected to deliver a crisp audio experience and take calls while doing a slew of other things. Proximity sensors were included in the AirPods for detecting when they're inside the user's ear so that they can turn on. Music automatically turns off when they're taken out of the ear. You can simply tap on AirPods in order to activate Siri, seeing how they don't come with any buttons.

The company said that the battery on AirPods could last for up to 5 hours while, in the case of Samsung's Gear IconX, it should last for about 3 hours. On the other hand, the Gear IconX can be a true workout companion while Apple didn't integrate such features in AirPods. Nevertheless, they are said to arrive next month for the price of $159, but users who wish to use their previously owned headphones can do so using the dongle that Apple provides with the purchase of the new phone.

People on Twitter have reacted to the removal of the cord

It's no surprise that Twitter has reacted to the removal of the cord, and it seems that many people are worried about losing them. Some even joke that they've already lost them, although they haven't been put up for sale yet.

Another serious issue regards the fact that some parents are worried about their children choking on the earbuds. Implicitly, pets too could choke on them. There's another situation in which you'd hope your headphones had a cord - when you drop your phone and manage to catch it by the headphone cord, thus avoiding a tragedy.

Still, there are many who are welcoming the idea of Apple's wireless headphones since they seem more comfortable, and you don't need to go through the whole process of untangling the cord whenever you want to listen to music with your headphones. But Apple should have put a little bit more thought into the design of the AirPods, since they do seem to stick out of the ear quite unfashionably, and some joked that they resemble toothbrushes.
