Several manufacturers to take care of production

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 in September, and it appears that plans for the new device are taking shape nicely, as the company has recently decided who will be in charge of the production process.

A report coming from Digitimes and citing unnamed sources (which is pretty much the first indication that you shouldn’t take this for granted until confirmation arrives) claims that Apple has decided to pick more manufacturers for the iPhone 7 in order to meet its production goals.

It appears that Apple expects demand for the iPhone 7 to be really big, and this is one of the reasons the company is looking into working with multiple manufacturers to ensure the available stock when the device goes live.

Despite speculation that the iPhone 7 could land with a third model possibly called the Pro, the aforementioned source claims that Apple would continue to bet big on just two versions, just like the current generation. The 4.7-inch model will be manufactured by Foxconn and Pegatron while the Plus version with a 5.5-inch display will be assembled by Foxconn and Wistron.

Changes coming to the iPhone 7

In terms of changes, as compared to the current generation, the iPhone 7 will ship with a similar design, and Apple is only planning some small modifications here and there.

Leaks have shown that Apple wants to remove the antenna lines on the back and place them at the top and the bottom of the phone, as it aims for a cleaner design. The camera will be placed closer to the edge too.

There are voices claiming that the audio jack will be removed and replaced with a Lightning connector that will play multiple roles, including charging and headphone port. Apple might include a Lightning adapter for headphones in the box or provide a completely new headset model coming with this connector from the get-go, but there are also reports that the company might actually go for a wireless version.

Certainly, there’s more to reveal on the iPhone 7 front, so take everything as rumors for the time being, at least until more evidence in this direction is provided.
