Company said to be in panic mode due to possible delay

Apple employees are working around the clock to get the iPhone 8 ready, but there’s still “a sense of panic in the air,” according to a new report, as most designers and engineers are afraid that the device could experience a major delay.

This is possible because top features that are projected to launch on the iPhone 8 are not ready just yet, and Apple employees struggle to deal with software issues, though there are a bunch of problems that cannot be resolved as quickly as the company hoped in the first place.

Fast Company reports citing people with knowledge of the matter that there are three different major issues that Apple is struggling to deal with and which could be disabled at the launch of the iPhone 8, but enabled at a later time with a software update. This means that the hardware is not the problem, but software support in iOS 11.

The three struggles

First and foremost, it appears that wireless charging is one particular headache for Apple, and there’s a good chance that the iPhone 8 would ship with such capabilities, but disabled at first.

Then, it’s the 3D sensor that should enable facial recognition, a feature that Apple is betting big on and which the company hopes would eventually replace Touch ID. Once again, software engineers are in a rush to get this working, but due to the same software issues, there’s a chance that its facial recognition won’t be available at first, but enabled at a later time with an update.

And last but not least, it’s the Touch ID, which the report claims would be embedded into the display.

More recent reports indicated that Touch ID could be abandoned completely for the 3D facial recognition system, but it appears that this isn’t the case and Apple is still very keen on implementing it into the display. This is one of the reasons the engineers are struggling to get this work correctly, though they are running out of time.

The iPhone 8 is projected to launch in September, but judging from all these reports, the device is likely to only see daylight at that point, with sales to begin later this year.
