The device would be revealed during WWCD in June

After multiple reports suggesting that the iPhone 8 would release sometime in November, one analyst suggests that we could get a glimpse of the new OLED iPhone this summer. Apple could preview the highly anticipated smartphone in June, during WWCD.

According to 9to5Mac, a JPMorgan analyst believes that there’s “high likelihood” that Apple will preview the new iPhone 8 during its WWDC event in June. With this move, Apple intends to build the hype around its new OLED smartphone, in anticipation of sales that would start this fall.

The report doesn’t provide much proof of its claims, saying just that investors should expect to see lower sales performance over this summer, as some consumers will hold off their purchase and wait for the iPhone 8 to be unveiled.

On the flip side, a preview could convince even more consumers to wait for the OLED iPhone to arrive, rather than purchase the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus this summer. Thus sales of iPhones could see an even bigger dive.

iPhone 8 will most likely be unveiled this fall

Earlier this week, Apple announced its financial results for the second fiscal quarter of the year, posting weaker iPhone sales, and a preview of the iPhone 8 could just be enough to get consumers excited about the new phone. However, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook did recently say that rumors and reports about the iPhone 8 had a negative sales effect on last year’s iPhone.

The WWDC has hosted iPhone launches in the past, until the iPhone 4 was announced in 2010. Afterward, Apple started announcing new smartphones each year in September, except for the iPhone 4s, which arrived in early October.

Even so, it’s more likely that Apple will announce the new iPhone 8 with OLED display, together with the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus during a media event in early September. The successors to last year’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will go on sale a couple of weeks after that, while the iPhone 8 might release in late October or early November.
