Only “small number of devices” affected, it says

Apple’s iOS 9.3.2 indeed comes with a plethora of bug fixes and improvements, but at the same time, it’s also giving headaches to a number of iPad owners who got their devices bricked after installing the latest update.

After several reports of 9.7-inch iPad Pro units hit by Error 56, Apple has finally confirmed that it’s indeed aware of some issues with the 9.3.2 update and is now looking into complaints. But the company says that only “a small number” of devices appear to be affected, so it’s not a widespread issue by any means.

“We're looking into a small number of reports that some iPad units are receiving an error when updating the software. Those unable to restore their device through iTunes should contact Apple support,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The general documentation that Apple provides for Error 56 suggests that users should try restoring via iTunes with the original cable included in the box, and in case nothing works, they should contact Apple support and get the device fixed.

At this point, iOS 9.3.2 is still up for grabs on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, so Apple hasn’t pulled it just yet, and there’s no reason to do that if it’s indeed just an isolated issue.

What’s next after iOS 9.3.2?

While iPad Pro owners whose devices were hit by this issue are now awaiting a fix from Apple, iOS users are actually hoping to see iOS 10 going live next month at WWDC before a public launch sometime later this year.

Only little is known about iOS 10 at this moment, but it’s believed that Apple is planning to provide users with a preview version in June at WWDC. The full version could see daylight with the iPhone 7, although there are contradictory reports in this regard since the device is projected to launch in September, and the company is unlikely to have enough time to address feedback received after the WWDC preview.
