Steve Wozniak talks about the removal of the headphone jack

Apple described the removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 as an act of courage, explaining that it had to replace it with the Lightning port because it needed more space inside the iPhone and it wanted to continue the digital revolution by giving up on the analog port.

But if you’re asking Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, this is not at all the reason. Woz explained in an interview with TechRadar that Apple actually decided to get rid of the headphone jack because only a few people were using it, so nobody’s going to miss it anyway.

“Not that many people used it, I never used it. For those who do use it, you can buy a little adaptor dongle,” he said, pointing out that the demise of the headphone jack isn’t such a big deal after all.

Woz admitted he’s also using several Android phones because he needs to remain up-to-date with what others are doing, but hasn’t mentioned whether he purchased a Note 7 too or not.

“I also have a lot of Android phones... I play with all the carriers I can. I like to compare everything, as that's how I learn,” he added.

A bigger fan of the Apple Watch

And what’s also very interesting is that Wozniak now sees the Apple Watch as a more interesting device. So interesting that when he doesn’t wear it, he doesn’t feel like losing anything. That’s actually an improvement, as Woz previously criticized the Apple Watch and described it as a fashion accessory and nothing more.

“I've come to like my Apple Watch more.... I actually forgot to wear it today and I want to use it just for seeing the time, if nothing else. I use it enough in my life for things ... I enjoy using it and having it. And when I don't use it, I don't even know it's there,” he said.

This isn’t the first time when Woz says things that only a few people agree with, but he’s clearly wrong now because the headphone jack was a really key feature for the majority of buyers. And truth be told, removing it because Apple needs more space inside the iPhone makes much more sense.
