Apple has just announced the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, two new-generation devices that are direct successors to the existing generation.

Just as rumored, the iPhone 8 lineup is made of glass, which the company says “is the most durable ever on a smartphone.”

The two devices feature screens that are the same sizes as on the iPhone 7, so we have a 4.7-inch screen and a 5.5-inch one on the Plus.

The devices come with TrueTone displays and improved speakers, which are 25 percent louder than on the current generation.

Apple’s new chip powering the iPhone 8 is called A11 Bionic, which “is the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone” It has 6 cores with 2 high-performance cores that are 25% fast than on the A10, and 4 high-efficiency cores that are 70% faster than its predecessor. The iPhone 8 comes with Apple’s first-ever own GPU which is designed for 3D games.

In terms of camera, the iPhone 8 comes with a new 12-megapixel sensor with deeper pixels and a new color filter. OIS is also offered. The iPhone 8 Plus features a 12MP dual camera with a new sensor as well, Apple says.

Prices and availability

Apple has talked about the camera of the new iPhone 8 models, explaining that they substantially reduce the noise and improve low-light photography.

And improved portrait mode will also be available on the iPhone 8 Plus. The feature conducts a real-time analysis of the lighting on your subject and adjusts it using AI.

In terms of video, the iPhone 8 “features the highest-quality video quality ever in a smartphone.” It features an Apple-designed video encoder.

The iPhone 8 will support wireless charging, a first for the Apple ecosystem. The wireless charging process will work with a charging plate, similar to Android devices, which have had this feature for a long time.

The device uses the Qi wireless charging standard, which means that Apple could support a wide variety of chargers for the iPhone 8. Fast charging will also be offered, even though Apple hasn’t talked at all about this feature.

iPhone 8 will be available with 64GB and 256GB of storage, starting from $699 for the 4.7-inch model, while the 8 Plus will cost from $799. Pre-orders will begin on September 15, while general availability is planned for September 22.
