ColorWare is a company that custom paints electronics products, including Apple devices. Based in the US, the company recently announced that it started accepting orders for Apple’s AirPods, thus making the earphones available in various colors.
The company announced that customers can paint their AirPods in 58 different colors, including metallic paint, glossy, and matte finishes. Customers need to pay $289 for a pair of painted AirPods, or $319 if they wish to receive a customized charging case as well.
Almost double the price of regular white AirPods
It’s not cheap to own custom-colored AirPods; ColorWare charges almost double the cost of a regular pair of white AirPods. The company says that the painting process is quite difficult and time consuming. Moreover, it receives AirPods directly from Apple, which makes the estimated shipping time between 8 to 10 weeks.
ColorWare offers customers the option to customize each AirPod differently and it even allows them to sample three paint options for $15.
US-based ColorWare isn’t the only company that’s offering colored AirPods, though. Another firm called BlackPods from Brooklyn offers to paint AirPods black for the price of $249. The cost includes the price of a new pair of AirPods.
ColorWare fully disassembles various products to paint them in custom colors and the company said that the process wasn’t that easy for AirPods. Apple’s AirPods are said to work even underwater, which means that components are glued together air-tight.
BlackPods also allows customers to send in their own white AirPods and get them painted black for the price of $99. The process is estimated to take about 3 days and it’s worth mentioning that ColorWare currently doesn’t offer this service.
