A software update is in the works, but no release date

Following reports that some iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus users are hearing static or crackling sounds during conversations, Apple admitted that there is a problem and that they are going to fix it in an upcoming update.

Each new generation of devices has its own problems. Some bend in the pocket or some catch fire, and you never know what you’re going to get. If you’re lucky, whatever problem you have can be corrected with a simple software update, if not, then you have to return the device.

From the initial reports, the crackling sounds seemed to affect quite a few people. Apple says that only a few users have experienced this issue, but since dozens have already posted online about the issue, it’s easy to imagine that only a handful of the affected will actually report this matter in a public forum.

Let’s hope this is the last

The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been around for a few days, and this static noise issue seems to be the only major problem reported by users. We can only hope that it stays that way.

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases. Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release,” said Apple in a statement for CNBC.

To be fair, there is a second, smaller issue, that doesn’t affect as many people because it’s about the interaction with Apple Watch Series 3, which makes the watch connect to unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks. Since there aren’t all that many Apple watches, the issue is a minor one.

There are two choices for users. You can either wait for a future update, which doesn’t have a release date as of yet or you can have your device exchanged, and hope that you get one that is problem-free.
