The glossy iPhone can scratch quite easily, it reckons

The glossy iPhone 7 is now official, and just like so many people said before the September 7 launch, when this model was just a leak, a shiny phone is not at all the kind of durable thing that you can use for many years in a row with no sign of damage.

And Apple itself admits that the glossy iPhone 7, which is officially known as Jet Black, can scratch quite easily, and it says on the official spec page of this model that users who want to avoid this can always purchase a protective case.

Apple has launched a new series of accessories for the iPhone 7 lineup, including cases and bumpers, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one that can protect your glossy phone.

“The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodisation and polishing process,” Apple explains. “Its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.”

It just doesn’t make sense

OK, so you buy a glossy iPhone that looks cool, and you have to get a case to protect its back. But in the end, what’s the purpose of getting the Jet Black iPhone if you need to cover it with a case?

Using a case basically means that you never get to see the shiny phone, so even if you go for the Jet Black, your iPhone 7 looks super similar to any other version out there when it’s covered entirely in the case.

Fortunately, however, there are many iPhone buyers out there who are already using covers or bumpers on their devices, and it’s very likely that they’ll continue doing the same thing if they upgrade to the iPhone 7 as well.

Luckily, the back surface of the iPhone 7 won’t get scratched really that easily, so if you’re not the kind of person who drops the phone to the ground twice a day, you should be fine even without a case. Time will tell if this is the case, though.
