The Apache Software Foundation released today, October 10, 2016, the third maintenance update to the OpenOffice 4.1 stable series of the open-source and cross-platform office suite.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 is now the latest and most advanced build of the powerful office suite, bringing various under-the-hood improvements and enhancements to keep the software project reliable and stable. The most important one is a fix for a security issue that could have allowed remote attackers to cause a denial of service (system crash) or execute malicious code via crafted MetaActions in ODP and OTP files.

Moreover, Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 is here to patch a regression from the previous maintenance update, which affected all database tables and queries when using the office suite on the Mac OS X platform. Various enhancements were added to the included build tools, including Xcode 10.11 SDK (Software Development Kit), which is now correctly recognized.

Bug fixes, updated dictionaries

Other than the above improvements and enhancements, Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 addresses various bugs reported by users since Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2. Among them, we can mention the ability to set the default currency to Euro when using the Lithuanian locale, add NSIS 3.* as a build requirement for the Windows installer, better downloading of dependencies, Windows/MSVC build fixes, and some small code cleanup.

Lastly, Apache OpenOffice 4.1.3 ships with updated dictionaries for a total of 20 languages. Below, we've attached the full changelog in case you're curious to know what exactly has been changed, added or modified in this maintenance update.
