The distribution now uses eudev instead of udev

The developers of the Debian-based antiX GNU/Linux distribution announced the release of antiX 17, dubbed "Heather Heyer" and based on the Debian GNU/Linux 9.2 "Stretch" operating system.

antiX 17 follows the trend of previous versions to offer users an operating system that does not include the widely used systemd init system. With this release, Gentoo's eudev device file manager for the Linux kernel is used by default instead of udev.

Designed to be fast, flexible, and light on resources, antiX 17 features a new option that lets users run a bleeding-edge Debian Testing (Debian GNU/Linux 10 "Buster") or Debian Sid platform. Also, it's now possible to set up and run a live encrypted system with persistence.

antiX 17 comes in four flavors, supports both 32-bit and 64-bit PCs

Among the pre-installed components of the antiX 17 release, we can mention eudev 3.2-4, Linux 4.10.5 kernel with fbcondecor splash, LibreOffice 5.2.7, Mozilla Firefox 52.4.0 ESR, Claws Mail 3.14.1, Evince 3.22.1, and Adobe Flash Player 20170808.1.

The Arc GTK+ theme is now included, and antiX 17 uses XMMS as default music player, GNOME MPlayer as default video player, SMTube for downloading and watching YouTube videos, as well as StreamLight-antiX for streaming videos on low-end computers.

The OS can be easily installed to disk drive, and a frugal installation on a partition is available as well. Both 32-bit and 64-bit PCs are supported by antiX 17, which comes in four flavors: antiX-full, antiX-base, antiX-core, and antiX-net.

You can download antiX 17 right now from our website, and you should study the full release notes to see what apps are included in the ISO images. antiX 17 is a recommended update for all users, no matter the version of antiX they're running.
