Samsung will launch a new flagship this month, but reports of the Galaxy S7 catching fire continue to surface. Last week, a Galaxy S7 unit went up in flames in the car, while the owner was driving, and recently another unit exploded in China.

The Galaxy S7 unit that caught fire was owned by a student at a university in China, according to local reports. The incident occurred while the owner was sleeping and the phone was placed on her bed and suddenly started catching fire.

The owner later posted pictures of the phone on one of China’s biggest social networks, Weibo. The images revealed the burned unit and suggested that the fire might have started from an overheating battery. However, it’s unclear if the phone was charging when the incident happened.

Samsung is investigating the incident

In her post, the owner said that she bought the Galaxy S7 phone in September last year, which means that she might have used it for about six months before it went up in flames. Fortunately, the woman didn’t suffer any physical damages, but the beddings got charred.

The phone’s owner contacted Samsung’s customer service department in China, which started an investigation in order to determine the cause of the incident. Samsung will most likely request the owner to send in the damaged unit and offer her a brand new Galaxy S7.

Such incidents have occurred in the past with Samsung phones and devices made by various other manufacturers. In many cases, the lithium-ion battery started overheating and became unstable, causing the phone to go up in flames.

As mentioned in the beginning, in a recent case, a Samsung Galaxy S7 caught fire while the owner was driving. The phone was simply standing in the cup holder in the car and was connected to the in-car Bluetooth system for streaming music from a mobile app. The device suddenly started catching fire, although it wasn’t plugged in.
