Microsoft’s efforts to convince iOS and Android developers to bring their apps on Windows 10 Mobile is slowly but surely gaining traction, as another key app created to run on the iPhone is now close to landing on Windows phones too.

WindowsBlogItalia writes that the Instagram universal app is currently in the works, and while it’s great to see another important app arriving in the store, there’s something that’s even more interesting about this new project.

The Instagram app for Windows 10 is in essence an iOS port, which shows once again that Redmond’s Project IslandWood could really come in handy for those who are already building apps for the iPhone and want to code for Windows 10 Mobile too.

At the moment, the Windows 10 version of Instagram is still in the works and is only available for private beta testers, so it could take a while until it arrives in the store. But since the BUILD 2016 developer conference is just around the corner, expect Microsoft to highlight the way Instagram is being ported to Windows 10 Mobile. Furthermore, the company could release the app in the store during the event too.

Project IslandWood

Microsoft’s bridge to bring iOS apps on Windows 10 is called Project IslandWood and is one of the ways that the software giant has come down to in order to address the lack of apps on its modern platforms.

Microsoft had its very own bridge for Android apps too, but this was canceled earlier this year, as the company said that it could cause more confusion in the developer community.

More information on everything related to the developer work for Windows 10 going on right now will be disclosed at BUILD when Microsoft will be able to get directly in touch with app makers and provide us with more updates on its bridges for PCs and mobile.
