How to fix one of the common issues in Windows 10

Installing Windows 10 was supposed to go as smoothly as possible, but because of various reasons, this process cannot complete for quite a lot of users, failing with multiple errors that say almost nothing to the average Joe about how to fix it.

For example, one of the common errors received when installing Windows 10 is 80240020, which was already encountered by many upgrades who already tried several workarounds to bypass this error.

As we reported to you a few weeks ago, there's indeed a quick way to address this problem and fix it with a simple registry tweak, but we now have an alternative way to repair it in case the first one didn't work.

Windows 10 installation folder corrupted

According to posts on the Microsoft Community forums, the error is displayed because the Windows 10 installation folder is corrupted, so to fix it, follow the steps below.

First and foremost, you need to open the next folder:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
And delete all the items here. Most of them should be errors or leftovers after a failed Windows 10 install, so you need to get rid of them in order to be able to reinitialize the setup.

Next you need to launch a Command Prompt window with administrator privileges and type the following command:

wuauclt.exe /updatenow
Once you do that, all you need to do next is to relaunch the Windows 10 installer, so go to Control Panel, click on Windows Update, and the Windows 10 update should be there waiting for your click.

This time, the process should complete successfully, but in case it fails, try to disable any antivirus solution or firewall that might be running on your computer. We heard that security apps could also have an impact on the way Windows 10 installation goes, so it might be worth a try if nothing else works.
