An unknown member of the Anonymous hacker collective has dumped a database online, claiming to belong to Izmir Gaz, a Turkish energy and natural gas provider based in the town of Izmir, located on the Western coast of Turkey.

The hacker(s) posted the data online two days ago, but at the time of writing, the Izmir Gaz website is down, providing some validity to the attacker's claims to have hacked the company.

Along with the data dump, the hacker posted the following message, with an apology to some of Turkey's citizens.

We hacked www.izmirgaz.comtr for two reasons: (1) Company owners have good relations with Erdo[REDACTED] (2) İzmir is city what Prime Minister Binali Yildirim elected. We didnt publish any data about citizens. We are sorry we didnt remove their payments/bills because we had to work fast.

Cleartext passwords were included

According to details found in the data dump files, the hackers seem to have breached one of Izmir Gaz's Oracle databases, from where they stole the data.

The details they dumped included passwords for 479 users, either in hashed or cleartext format, or sometimes both.

There was also a table labeled "records" and containing 349 entries that looked to be subscriber details; a table labeled "budget," which included 221 entries that looked like budget and maintenance reports; and a table labeled "billing" and holding 231 entries that contained details for both companies and individuals.

The data came a day after a branch of Anonymous announced Operation Turkey, in which some of the hackers took a stance against the Turkish government. Below are two separate statements made by the group regarding their new operation:

Turkish people will liberate the country against the impact of the oppression made by the Turkish Government. With all kinds of interventions, we will try to empower the people of turkey. You can support us to fight Erdoğan and you can do something to prevent the ongoing purge of freedoms in Turkey, we have to enlighten Turkish people to reveal the truth. Now the government persecuted the people of Turkey by helping ISIS and its supporters, come and join us in the fight Together Against ISIS and Erdoğan.
