The Android-x86 project was proud to announce the release and immediate availability for download of the third stable update to the latest Android-x86 6.0 Linux- and Android-based operating system for personal computers.

Android-x86 is an open-source project that lets users install and use a variant of Google's Android mobile OS on their PCs, as Android is yet another operating system powered by the Linux kernel. Android-x86 6.0-r3 is the latest stable release of the OS, adding a bunch of improvements over the previous versions.

These include automatic mounting of CD and DVD media, the recently released Mesa 17.0.4 3D Graphics Library, the long-term supported Linux 4.4.62 kernel, which is injected with various AOSP (Android Open Source Project) patches, as well as a brand new qemu-android script that lets users launch Android-x86 in QEMU.

Based on Android Marshmallow-MR2

In the release announcement, the developers have noted the fact that the newly introduced qemu-android script is available only in RPM installations. It's also important to mention here that Android-x86 6.0-r3 is based on Android Marshmallow-MR2 (6.0.1_r79), which is the latest release.

Android-x86 6.0-r3 also attempts to address an issue that some users reported with the VMWare virtualization software, which appeared to have been broken since the Android-x86 6.0-r2 release announced in mid-January and includes numerous updated packages from upstream projects like NTFS-3G, exFAT, BlueZ, and LibDRM.

Prebuilt images of the Android-x86 6.0-r3 stable release are available for download right now from our website if you want to install and use Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your personal computer, but please note that the suspend and resume don't work on some devices. Existing users are urged to update their systems ASAP.
